Awaiting the birth of your child

Awaiting the birth of your child whether it is your first or not can be a wonderful frustrating time. Everyone is asking you when the baby is coming, why haven't you delivered yet, how long do you plan on staying pregnant, etc, etc. Society has become so focused on baby being delivered exactly on your due date or early. Nobody wants to wait for anything these days. We want immediate service, we hate to wait in line and I think the result of all this is that we don't enjoy the moment. You will only be in this pregnancy once.

Random thoughts

Alot has been running through my mind these days and this morning as I was relaxing in my yoga class they started to come together. Last night I was at a Coffee Klatch (I hate when I clean out my calendar - I had a bookmark which said what this acronym stands for). Anyway one of the woman was talking about waiting for a tomato to ripen and comparing that to waiting for the right moment for something to happen. I, of course being a midwife, related this to birth.

Blogging

I am still new at blogging but have been told it is important to do. What is going on in my midwifery life. My clientele is expanding. Zoe and I are also working one day a week at the Nature Coast Family Clinic in Williston. We love it there. We are doing well-women care as well as pre-natal care. It is really expanding our horizons in so many ways. Every week when we finish clinic we come up with more things we want to do to improve the health of women. If only we had tons of money and lots of time.

Attachment Parenting

I always love when I meet new people and when I learn new things. Today I meet with a really neat lady who is involved with the Attachment parenting group here in Gainesville. I had heard the phrase and googled it but didn't really know what they were about. She explained it and it made sense. After talking with her I realized that I did alot of that with my kids, we just didn't have a name for it 20 years ago. If I had the support system that this lady has I probably would have done more.

Business of Being Born

Last night I saw Ricky Lake's Business of Being Born. It was wonderful. I am really looking forward to seeing it again on Jan 24 & 25th. Sarah and I will have a table there with all our information.

It was great. There were some medical students there and I think this will really change how they practice. One of the students wanted to know more about doulas and how he could become a midhusband.

Let's change the world one birth at a time!!!!
